A univariate distribution is a probability distribution of a single random variable. In the case of tabular synthetic data, this is the probability distribution of individual columns. A comparison of the univariate distributions of the original and synthetic data shows whether each of the columns is synthesized correctly. It does not evaluate any of the relationships between columns.
